Victorian Glass

Collecting Victorian Glass can be both satisfying and frustrating. Satisfying in that you can't walk past a piece without stopping to admire the beauty and workmanship, frustrating because of the difficulty in attributing makers to pieces.

My collection is primarily English and Bohemian (Czech) in origin, but beyond that, attributing makers has really been a matter of going with the majority online opinion. For example, most of my "English" glass has been attributed to Stevens and Williams, both in books and online. There are differing opinions of course but for the purposes of this collection I am going with the general consensus for glass of various types. I am not claiming to be correct, only that my attributions are those most commonly found.

Some Victorian era glass has been well documented - Welz, Loetz and Kralik for example, but much wasn't. Unlike Art Deco era glass makers who left behind a wealth of catalogues, there is not a lot to help identify Victorian glass aside from surviving patented design features, which in the case of England, are not terribly extensive. so there is not a lot to go on. So please don't take as set in stone any attributions I might make on this site in the Victorian section
